WEEK 9

ACTIVITY: RESEARCH AND FINDINGS

In week 9, my research focused on Infrared Sensor and Servo motor.

1) Infrared Sensor

An Infrared sensor is an electronic device that emits to sense some aspects of the surroundings. This module is sensitive to ambient light with a pair of infrared transmitting and receiving tubes. The Infrared Sensor can measure the heat as well as detects motion. Anything that emits heat gives off infrared radiation.

There are two types of Infrared sensor which is active and passive. The active infrared sensor emits and detects infrared radiation. Active Infrared sensors have two parts that are light-emitting diode (LED) and a receiver. When any objects close to the sensor, the infrared light from LED reflects off the objects and is detected by the receiver. Active IR sensors act as proximity sensors. It is commonly used in obstacle systems. The sensor detection range can be adjusted through the potentiometer. When adjusting the potentiometer clockwise, the detection distance increases. If turning the potentiometer anti-clockwise, the detection distance is reduced.

2) Servo Motor

Servo motor is a   tiny and lightweight component with high output power. This servo motor can rotate approximately 180 degrees and work like standard kinds but it is smaller. It has three colors of wire that are brown, red, and orange. The brown wire is for the ground, the red wire is for the power of the motor, and the orange wire for the input. All the wires must connect correctly with an Arduino Uno pin.
